Musical Theater Program

OYES produces musical theater for varying age groups (4-6, 7-11, 12-17). These are fully realized productions that perform on the OYES Youth Center Stage at the Ojai Valley Community Church campus. OYES’s after-school musical theatre and drama enrichment programs operate similarly to an after-school dance, music, or sports program.

Weekly rehearsals include drama exercises and games to build performance skills, and rehearsal time to learn music, staging, and choreography for the show.

All participants registered in the program, receive a role in the production. Auditions for placement are held during the first week of production.

ABOUT THE SHOW

220px-James_and_the_Giant_Peach_(musical_logo).png

Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach JR. is a brand new take on this "masterpeach" of a tale.  Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way. From the center of the gigantic fruit, comes a life-changing journey and fantastic discoveries for James and his unlikely crew.

Production Design

OYES’ production design for James and the Giant Peach Jr is inspired by the Steampunk Genre!

What’s steampunk?

A genre of science fiction that has a historical setting and typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advanced technology. The style of design and fashion that combines historical elements with anachronistic technological features.

ABOUT CASTING - We’re here to enjoy the experience! Our goal is to provide participants the tools they need to participate in an ensemble, and have a fantastic time learning and growing in this group process. We aim to provide as much stage time as possible to every participant, and encourage our cast members to be part of an ensemble group no matter what role they are cast to play. The casting process takes into consideration various factors including presentations at audition, experience, training, passion, growth, commitment to rehearsals and practice, roles previously played, and last but definitely not least, the chemistry of the cast over all.

The production team maintains the privilege of casting the show as they see fit, and intend to create a well-balanced cast. Please encourage your child to embrace their casting, and remember, there are no small parts.

CANCELLATION POLICY - Any cancellations must be made within 48 hours of registration in order to receive a refund of the tuition fees, minus a $50 cancellation fee.
