Trimester 1 & 2: Disney’s The Lion King, Jr
In this performance-based class, students will begin their musical adventure developing their voices and preparing to sing music from Disney’s The Lion King, Jr.
Throughout the rehearsal process, students will develop ear, pitch, and aural skills. Class rehearsals will include basic instruction in solfeggio, and students will work to develop music literacy skills, and vocal production quality.
Trimester 1 and 2 students will work on music from Disney’s The Lion King, Jr.. In addition to showcases, Trimester 2 students will perform as a choir with OYES’ production of Disney’s The Lion King, Jr. in January and February. Exact dates TBD.
Disney’s The Lion King will feature songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, and score by Hans Zimmer, that will inspire students to learn harmonies, and sing in Zulu and Swahili languages.
As part of a choir, members are expected to commit to regular rehearsals and performances, be punctual and attentive.

Trimester 1
Students will study and sing music from Disney’s The Lion King, Jr.

Students will perform a showcase of class work at the end of the first trimester on the OYES stage along with OYES’ VOC after school students. This is NOT a ticketed event. The Nov 16 showcase is free to attend for the VOC community. Not a public event.
Trimester 2
Students will continue work on Disney’s The Lion King, Jr. for the first few weeks. After OYES’ The Lion King performances in January, new choir material will be introduced!
PERFORMANCES

Jan 12-14 and Feb 2-4 (dates subject to adjustment)

ADDITIONAL TECH REHEARSALS WITH THE FULL CAST WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN SHOWS. COMMITMENT TO THE PRODUCTION REQUIRED TO PLAN FOR MICS AND TECHNICAL, COSTUMES, AND CREW. DATES TBA.
This is a ticketed event. VOC families attending performances would be expected to purchase a ticket along with all other attendees for performances.
Choir parents are not expected to volunteer for the production.

Details
New and returning students will build on their Trimester 1 work leading up to performances in OYES' production of Disney's The Lion King, Jr.
In January, performances will begin and the VOC choir students in Trimester 2 will merge into the production, performing with the full cast on specific show dates.
Starting Feb 6 - After the close of the The Lion King production (closes Feb 4), students will begin work on new music and/or continue to refine their work on TLK music, culminating in a showcase at he VOC open house on March 7th.
Trimester 3
Students will continue to build their choir skills and experience. New or ongoing material will be determined based on class engagement.

Students will present a showcase of their work on June 6th on the OYES stage along with the other OYES after school students.
