Meisner Technique

You may have heard the phrase, “Acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” These words belong to legendary acting teacher Sanford Meisner, whose approach has had a lasting influence on American acting.
Unlike techniques that rely heavily on analysis and intellectual preparation, the Meisner Technique emphasizes instinct, impulse, and authentic responses in the moment. Well-known for encouraging his students not to “think too much,” Meisner encouraged his students to get out of their heads, trust their instincts, and respond truthfully to the actors around them.
This beginning course opens the door to deeper training that will support you through auditions, rehearsals, and performance.
You’ll explore a process that helps you be fully present—responding in the moment, not from a script in your head, but from instinct.
Actors will:
Listen instinctively
Respond truthfully
Work moment-to-moment through improvisation
All levels welcome.

ABOUT TALIA
“I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2006 with a degree in Art History. After graduating, I moved back to Los Angeles to pursue my acting Dream and enrolled in the two-year Meisner program at the Baron Brown Studio in Santa Monica, where I completely fell in love with the craft.
Shortly after I graduated, Joanne Baron—the founder and owner of the studio—invited me to train with her to become a teacher for her studio. She taught me privately, and I learned how to teach the Meisner Technique in its integrity, as Sanford Meisner taught it. I then went on to teach at Baron Brown Studio for several years, roughly from 2009 through 2017.
After recently moving to the area, I slowly began teaching small groups again, which has been incredibly rewarding and so much fun. It reminded me how much I love the work and how much I enjoy guiding students through the process.”
