Angelica Smith, Actor/Director/Educator

Angelica Smith is so excited to join the OYES team! She’s been teaching musical theater to kids (K-8th) since the fall of 2017 in the Conejo and LA Valleys but is happy to be back in her hometown of Ojai.

As an avid lover of music, Angelica has been singing in choirs since she was at Nordhoff High School. After high school, she lived in Borken, Germany for one year as an exchange student where she studied language, culture, and the performing arts. She has since been studying voice and theater at Santa Barbara City College, San Francisco State University (B.A. in Spanish), Moorpark College, and continues with her own acting training with teachers across the country and in LA.

Angelica is active in community theater and was last seen on stage in Ojai as Nurse Kelley in Harvey. You may have also seen her in town as Olivia in Night Must Fall (OACT) or Camorra in The Tragedy of Boudicca (Muse of Fire). Other favorite performances include April in Company, Miss Olson in Promises, Promises, Sister Mary Leo in Nunsense, and Helene in Sweet Charity, for which she earned a Broadway World Nomination. Angelica also acts in TV and film.

As a director, music director, and choreographer Angelica has led productions such as Aristocats, Aladdin, Annie, Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Seussical, Beauty and the Beast, Anything Goes, Singing in the Rain, and summer programs including Into the Woods, Hamilton, Frozen, Encanto, and The Greatest Showman.

Teaching kids music and seeing their faces light up with enjoyment is a gift Angelica doesn’t take for granted. She is incredibly grateful to OYES for including her in the team.
